UNPRECEDENTED SECURITY MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN IN COURSE OF THE POPE'S VISIT TO ARMENIA

PanARMENIAN.Net - Unprecedented security measures will be undertaken in course of the head of the Roman Catholic Church Pope John-Paul the Second's official visit to Armenia planned for September 25-27. As Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dzyunik Aghajanian told journalists today, an hour and a half before the beginning of the ceremony the officers of law-enforcement bodies would block off the traffic in the streets adjoining the scene of actions. Not only media representatives, but also each of 5-7 thousand believers and guests, who wish to participate in the open homily by John Paul II planned to take place September 27 in Holly See of Echmiadzin, will be exposed to personal inspection.

Over 400 journalists, 58 of which from Vatican, are expected to elucidate the Pope's visit to the Republic. In course of his visit John Paul II will meet with Armenian President Robert Kocharian, will visit the memorial of the Armenian genocide victims and will participate the religious ceremony in St. Gregory Enlightener Cathedral. Besides the open homily in Holy See of Echmiadzin, the Pope will also visit Hor-Virap cloister September 27. The same day the head of the Roman Catholic Church will leave Armenia.
