Vic Darchinyan to fight in Showtime tournament

The highly-anticipated four-man bantamweight tournament from Showtime is moving forward.

Yonnhy Perez, Vic Darchinyan, Abner Mares and Joseph Agbeko are all in. Perez will meet Agbeko in a rematch of a tremendous fight from Halloween 2009, and Darchinyan will face Mares. The first two fights will be on the same card, which is very exciting.

The dates being mentioned are November 6 and December 18. The November date had already been reported for Perez-Agbeko II, but it has to make sense for all four fighters and the promoters now, and this is a heavyweight promotional crew. Gary Shaw represents Perez and Darchinyan, while Don King promotes Agbeko and Mares is a Golden Boy fighter, according to badlefthook.com.

The opening round, however, probably will wind up being Perez in a Nov. 6 rematch with Agbeko, who is his mandatory challenger, and Darchinyan and Mares meeting in the other half of the bracket. The winners would meet in early 2011, writes Dan Rafael on ESPN.com.
