Armenia-Russia agreement threw Azerbaijan off balanceAugust 30, 2010 - 16:02 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Defense Ministry has labeled Azerbaijani Defense Ministry spokesman Eldar Sabiroglu’s statement that signature of the protocol on extension of terms of the Russian military base deployment in Armenia spells “loss of latter’s independence” as absurd. “It’s clear that extension of Russian military base deployment terms threw Azerbaijan off balance. The protocol guarantees military equilibrium, strengthening Armenia’s regional position. It also prevents resumption of hostilities, rendering Baku’s warlike statements senseless,” the Ministry said in a statement. “The agreement signed serves the interests of both parties, Russia being the strategic partner of Armenia. As for the ability of independent decision-making, the Armenian army keeps permanent vigil on the border, ready to repel any attack.”
