One should not pin hopes on third party in Karabakh process

Director General of the Effective Policy Foundation Kirill Tanayev said that Moscow's basic vector in the Karabakh conflict resolution is to assist Baku and Yerevan so that they keep a permanent dialogue.

According to him, Moscow is interested in unblocking of the border and establishment of economic relations between its strategic allies - Armenia and Azerbaijan. "Russia's goal is to assist in finding compromises, decreasing tenseness. It is evident that everyone wants soonest resolution of the problem, but it is impossible, the more so as Russia is not the only member of the OSCE Minsk Group, which makes considerable contribution to negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It is a dialogue platform and it should not be rejected. However, it does not forbid the efforts of President Medvedev. I mean the trilateral meetings.

The permanent dialogue of the Presidents is for the benefit of both bilateral relations and the Karabakh conflict resolution. However, Azerbaijan and Armenia should resolve the conflict themselves. They should not wait for third party's decision," he said.

Tanayev noted that the conflict resolution is a long way: "The conflict should be resolved peacefully. The past 20 years showed that the military resolution of the conflict is impossible. Various blockades do not settle the problem either. It is a difficult problem, as there is no recipe for the conflict resolution," APA quoted Tanayev as saying.
