Belarus still interested in Armenian brandy production

Belarusian Minister of Trade Valentin Chekanov said that the share of Armenian brandy sales in Belarus makes 38% of the entire brandy sale volume.

Currently, six private and public enterprises deal with the import of Armenian brandy, Chekanlov said during the September 28 joint press conference with Armenian Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan in Yerevan.

“We will contribute to increase of its volume in our market,” said Chekanov.

Speaking about the possibility of a plant establishment for Armenian brandy production in Belarus, he said that there is no special protocol on it, while the matter is still discussed.

According to Chekanov, Moldavian and other countries’ brandy is produced in Belarus as per the technology of these countries. “This output is successfully sold in the market. And we want the same thing to happen with Armenian brandy,” said the Minister of Trade.

For his part, Armenian Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan noted that Armenian brandy will be produced in compliance with the Armenian technologies. As for the establishment of a factory in Belarus and Armenian brandy production there, Yeritsyan doubted implementation of similar plans, since there are restrictions on usage of Armenian brandy name in the Armenian legislation.
