RA Diaspora Ministry to offer UN to adopt convention on Diaspora

Armenian Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan said that 2011 will become a year of Diaspora’s internationalization.

The Ministry of Diaspora aims to develop a Convention on the Armenian Diaspora in 2011, while the offer on it will be submitted to the UN, Hakobyan told a press conference dedicated to the 2nd anniversary of the Ministry.

“In my opinion, not only the Armenian Diaspora, but also Diasporas of all peoples should be recognized by international institutions. To this end, we plan to organize a forum to bring together politicians from various countries with big Diaspora. Upon completion of the forum, Armenia, as an initiator and organizer of the conference, will submit a relevant document to the UN. Our Diaspora is multilingual and diverse. We should create a joint platform for confidence and cooperation for them,” Hakobyan concluded.
