Armenia’s state structures have one month to introduce Mariam and Grapalat fontsSeptember 29, 2010 - 18:09 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Representative of the Department on Administration and Monitoring of Cultural Programs at the RA Ministry of Culture, Garnik Guyunjyan said that Mariam and Grapalat fonts, approved as compulsory ones by the Armenian government, will be introduced in the official document circulation of Armenia within a month. Grapalat font will be used as a screen one, while Mariam font will be used also as a type font, Guyunjyan told journalists. According to him, soon it will be possible to download the new typefaces, including Cyrillic and Latin fonts, as well as a range of symbols (AMD, etc), which were not available earlier, from the website of the Ministry of Culture. Mariam and Grapalat fonts provide with the opportunity to type texts in both Western and Eastern Armenian, what will contribute to strengthening ties with the Armenian Diaspora, according to Guyunjyan. During the September 24 sitting, the Armenian government approved Mariam and Grapalat fonts as compulsory ones for the official circulation of documents. The decision was adopted due to the necessity of introduction and usage of Armenian fonts supporting Unicode in the official circulation of documents, as well as with consideration of provisions of the RA Law on Copyrights. The fonts were elaborated in 2008 by designer Edik Gabuzyan, the head of the Department on Maintenance and Elaboration of Armenian Fonts at the Armenian National Literature Chamber. The two fonts are compatible with both IBM and Macintosh computers. Top stories Yerevan will host the 2024 edition of the World Congress On Information Technology (WCIT).
