Georgian Foreign Ministry’s statement on Russia’s attempt to damage Armenia-Georgia incorrect, Armenian expert believes

The statement by Georgian Foreign Ministry on Russia’s attempt to damage Armenia-Georgia relations is incorrect. Armenia acts as a potential mediator between Russia and Georgia, according to the director of CIS Institute in Armenia, political expert Alexander Margarov.

“Georgian Foreign Ministry’s statement is triggered by the extension of Russian military base deployment in Armenia, perceived by Georgia as a threat. In reality, the military base aims to provide regional security,” the expert told PanARMENIAN.Net.

“Russia realizes that Georgia is among the few outlets to Armenia, especially in transportation sector, with Upper Lars as the only road linking Armenia to Russia. So the statement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry is groundless – Moscow does not need to damage Armenia-Georgia relations,” Margarov emphasized.

“Russia makes continuous attempts to cause rift in Armenia-Georgia relations,” Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Nino Kalandadze stated earlier.
