Books of Belge publishing house can be purchased in Turkey, but it is better to order them via internet

Turkish publicist, publisher and human rights activist Ragip Zarakolu said that books of Belge publishing house can be purchased in Turkey, but it is better to order them via internet.

The publishing house basically issues books dedicated to the Armenian Genocide, Zarakolu said in Yerevan.

“We published books of Armenian writers Amen Garo, Peter Balakian, memories of U.S. Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire Henry Morgenthau, famous specialist of the Armenian Genocide Vahagn Dadrian, as well as archive documents. Our publishing house also prints books of modern Armenian and Turkish authors, specifically of those who write about the Armenian Cause,” said Zarakolu.

Ragip Zarakolu presented in Yerevan a recently published book dedicated to writer, publisher and editor Teodik (Teodos Labjinjian, 1873-1928). In 1915, Teodik was arrested and deported, however a group of Armenian partisans managed to release him. He had lived in Paris since 1923.

The Turkish publicist noted that the first book about Teodik was published in Istanbul after almost 100 years. “I dedicated this book to my friend Hrand Dink, who was killed in 2007 in Istanbul,” noted Zarakolu.

Ragip Zarakolu was brought to trial under Article 301 of the Turkish Criminal Code for “insulting the Turkish state and Kemal Ataturk’s memory.” In 2008, only the first part – insulting the Turkish state - was maintained in the accusation. Ragıp Zarakolu was given the NOVIB/PEN Free Expression Award in 2003.
