PACE Vice President advises to review traditional ideas about democracy

PACE Vice President John Prescott said that currently, the Council of Europe, which has been operating for already 60 years, is passing the third, important boundary, and it is necessary to look for innovative solutions for democracy development now.

The Council of Europe is a political project, which unites many peoples around common values, John Prescott said during the CoE Forum For the Future of Democracy which kicked off in Yerevan on October 19.

He added that today democracy faces numerous problems and challenges. “It is necessary to enhance democracy and do it without concessions. Our traditional ideas about democracy should be reviewed. Sustainable mechanisms of cooperation should be found and today’s forum should discuss these very opportunities,” said Prescott.

He also expressed hope that the forum will contribute to development and strengthening of democracy.
