Garnik Petrosyan: decline in agriculture by end of 2010 is inevitable

PhD in Agricultural Sciences Garnik Petrosyan said that decline is expected in all fields of Armenia’s agriculture by the end of 2010, except for grape production.

“Considerable decline is expected in plant cultivation and fodder production. As for grape, its production will be almost at the same amount as in 2009,” Petrosyan told a press conference on November 16 in Yerevan.

According to data of the RA National Statistical Service, 17.9% drop was recorded in the country’s agriculture in January-September 2010.

Petrosyan noted that villagers faced numerous problems in retaining harvest in summer and they did not know who can assist them.

“Our consultative services do not work efficiently. Moreover, they lack relevant specialists in agriculture to assist villagers,” he concluded.
