RA Defense Ministry not to be forced to substitute potato by pasta

Chairman of the Agrarian-Peasant Union (APU) of Armenia Hrachya Berberyan said that the APU has developed a program on stabilization of the country’s agriculture in 2011.

The program is of an anti-crisis nature, as 17% decline was recorded in the field, Berberyan told a press conference on November 26.

The program is aimed at creation of large farmers’ unions.

Berberyan said that the APU will distribute seeds among villagers, specifically, potato seeds for 500ha for free, what will allow gaining a good harvest in 2011.

In addition, high-quality potato seeds will be distributed, what will provide with the opportunity to return to previous volumes in 2-3 years. Thus, it will lead to decrease in price for potato, which currently makes AMD 250 per kilogram. And the Armenian Defense Ministry will not be forced to substitute this expensive product by pasta in the army.

Hrachya Berberyan added that the APU will do its utmost to stabilize the agriculture.
