Lennmarker urges to achieve peaceful solution to Karabakh conflict through discussions

The chairman of the governing board of Stockholm International Peace Research Institute Goran Lennmarker commented on the possibility to reach an agreement on withdrawal of snipers from the line of contact between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces during the oncoming presidential meeting in Astana.

“I don’t know what will happen in Astana,” he said during “European Perspectives in the Context of Eastern Partnership and the Process of Negotiation of Association Agreement” international conference.

“But the problem is Karabakh conflict is not frozen. It costs about 20-30 lives a year. Young men die along the line, and it costs a lot economically and politically. That is why the conflicting parties should compromise and find a peaceful solution through discussions,” Lennmarker stated in reply to PanARMENIAN.Net reporter’s question.
