A Republican congressman called for Wikileaks to be designated a terrorist organization.

Peter King, a member of the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee, said the latest release "manifests Mr Assange's purposeful intent to damage not only our national interests in fighting the war on terror, but also undermines the very safety of coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan", BBC reported.

WikiLeaks released a new trove of 250,000 confidential American diplomatic cables over the weekend. The new revelations of global concerns about long-simmering nuclear trouble spots such about Iran, Pakistan and North Korea.

Media which had advance access to the cables offered many of them via their own websites. The publishing consortium included the Der Spiegel of Germany, The New York Times, the London newspaper The Guardian and El Pais of Madrid.
