Obama’s administration ordered review on protecting classified information

President Barack Obama’s administration ordered a review on protecting classified information after leaks of State Department cables that were published by the website WikiLeaks.org.

“Protecting information critical to our nation’s security is the responsibility of each individual who is granted access to classified information,” White House budget director Jacob Lew said in a memo dated yesterday and released today, November 29.

In the memo, Lew said the heads of departments and agencies handling classified information must establish “a security assessment team” to review procedures for safeguarding intelligence information.

Lew said the Office of Management and Budget and the Director of National Intelligence must establish processes to evaluate their security practices to make sure classified information is protected.
