Armenian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgyan presided over a sitting of the Committee on Organization and Operation of Population Census.

Expectations from the pilot population census conducted in Sevan town, Gegharkunik region, and four rural communities of Tavush region on October 21-30, have basically justified, the Ministry’s press service reported.

The basic problems were as follows: lack of plates with street names and building numbering, as well as discrepancies in diagrammatic plans and actual places of households.

Besides, problems were faced with obtainment of correct and complete information about residents of villages and land plots.

It was decided to organize a special meeting with participation of Armenia’s governors in the second half of January 2011 to discuss the basic population census due October 12-21, 2011, and problems solution.

The Norwegian government, UN Population Fund, World Bank, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Italian government allocated $585,000, $200,000, $100,000, CHF 400,000, 12,000 euros respectively for the population census in Armenia. Besides, the Indian government provided material aid at the amount of $100,000.
