The outcomes of the tender for biometric passport design will be known till the end of January.

“8 foreign organizations have applied for license for production of Armenian biometric passports and electronic ID cards. Poland is most interested, as it possesses experience in making biometric passports for Lithuania and Bangladesh,” chief of the passport and visa department of Armenian police Norayr Muradkhanyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

Armenian citizens can receive biometric passports and electronic ID cards from Sept. 2011. Biometric passports will contain the citizen’s name and last name, date and place of birth, photograph and two fingerprints. Electronic ID cards will contain the same data, but with an electronic signature instead of fingerprints.
