New path for natural gas transfer to be constructed in Middle East

In line with development of Iran-Syria cooperation, the two countries signed a document according to which Iran's natural gas will be exported to Europe through a new route.

As the Head of Iran National Gas Company, Javad Oji, said, the route of Iran, Iraq, Syria, southern Lebanon and Mediterranean Sea is the new corridor for export of Iran's natural gas to Europe, and Tehran and Damascus have reached a final agreement for implementation of this route.

The cooperation document for export and transit of Iran's natural gas to Europe was recently inked in Damascus by Javad Oji, and the Syrian Deputy Oil Minister, Ali Abbas.

Based on this cooperation document; within the next month, Tehran, Baghdad, and Damascus hold joint meetings, and make decisions on economic estimations and determination of the new path for transference of natural gas. The new pipeline for export of Iran's natural gas to Europe has a 56-inch diameter, with the capacity for daily transference of 110 million cubic meters of natural gas, and is constructed with the cooperation of Iran, Syria, and Iraq. The Assalouyeh region in Bushehr Province, and the South Pars Gas Field in Persian Gulf feed this pipeline with natural gas, for transit and export to Europe.

Based on predictions, the new pipeline for export of Iran's natural gas to Europe will be launched into operation during the years 2013-14, IRIB reported.
