Matthew Bryza expected to arrive in Baku early in February

Newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza will arrive in Baku early in February, 1news.az quoted a diplomatic source in Washington as saying.

Bryza has not been approved by the U.S. Senate, but was appointed by President Obama.

U.S. President Barack Obama appointed Bryza as the new ambassador to Azerbaijan by using his special authority.

According to the U.S. Constitution, Senate must approve appointments to key offices like embassies. However, the U.S. president can make appointments too when Congress is in legislative recess. The appointment of Bryza must be approved within one year by the Senate in the new legislative term.
