10TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEPORTATION OF PEACEFUL POPULATION MARKED IN NAGORNO KARABAKH
YEREVAN, May 15. /Mediamax/. In accordance with international norms, the "Ring" operation is considered as an attempt of genocide and it must be recognized adequately.
Correspondent of Mediamax informed that Chairman of Foreign Relations Commission of NKR Parliament Vahram Atanesian said this today at a press conference in Stepanakert.
In May 1991, as a result of "Ring" operation carried out by special police detachments of Azerbaijan in cooperation with sub-units of Soviet army and Internal Affairs Ministry of USSR, 20 thousand peaceful Armenians were deported from 26 Karabakh villages.
Atanesian reminded that the fact of deportation was fixed on July 16th of 1991 by international observers. According to him, there are proofs that in May 1991Azerbaijani President Ayaz Mutalibov has asked the permission of central government to get even with peaceful Armenian population.
Atanesian stressed that it was necessary to present to the international instances the facts of crimes against the peaceful Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh, carried out by the Azerbaijani authorities in the period of 1918-1920, in Soviet times and during the military actions, right up to conclusion of cease fire in 1994. --0--
