Tigran Sargsyan: customs duty increase unacceptable

The Armenian government has rejected the legislative initiative on introduction of amendments to the RA Customs Code.

A group of MPs suggested raising customs duty for some kinds of goods, what, according to them would be beneficial for local manufacturers.

However, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan dismissed the idea as harmful, saying that such decision will cause rise in prices. “Customs duty increase is just unacceptable.”

“In 2011, the government will concentrate on possibilities to curb inflation, which is a formidable challenge for Armenia. This will allow to secure economic stability,” he said.
