Armenia to export fish to Europe

During the February 3 sitting, the Armenian government approved the procedure for provision of information on foodstuffs, food supplements, etc., that are subject to certification for export from and import to Armenia.

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan noted that within the framework of cooperation with the EU, Armenia has shouldered the obligation of introducing international standards in phytosanitary, what will allow inviting European inspections to conduct certification of local producers in future.

Specifically, according to Sargsyan, the Armenian government carried out huge works in 2010 to introduce relevant norms in fish breeding. As a result of it, 22 local companies have been certified of the Russian Agricultural Inspection. In 2010 Armenia exported 500t of fish to Russia.

“The Armenian government has provided significant assistance to fish farms. Now we need to reach a new stage of development with usage of international standards. The works implemented in the field are aimed at accessing European markets that will lead to economic growth. We should secure a considerable growth in the field of fish breeding in Armenia in 2011,” concluded Sargsyan.
