Tigran Karapetryan threatens Armenian authorities with “red card”

A crowd of several hundred people gathered at Madenadaran museum of ancient manuscripts where the People’s Party leader, head of ALM Holding Tigran Karapetyan is conducting his “open-air congress.”

As PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent reports from the ground, participants of the impromptu rally approved the message to be passed to Armenian President. The petition in question lists basic demands of the party: immediate liberation of those arrested after March 1, 2008 events; preclusion of ceding Karabakh and stationing of western peacemaking forces in the region; inclusion on Javakhk Armenians’ issue on the government’s agenda.

As Tigran Karapetyan noted, the struggle is aimed solely against authorities, without any intention on behalf of the party to enter into a coalition. “Unless the authorities fulfill our conditions by February 28 we’ll show them a “red card”, demanding extraordinary elections,” Karapetyan stressed.

The rally continued, with a group of demonstrators heading for presidential residence to pass the petition.
