Lilit Mkrtchyan, Elina Danielyan to play in FIDE Grand Prix Series

Armenia’s Lilit Mkrtchyan (2475) and Elina Danielyan (2454) will take part in FIDE Women Grand Prix in Qatar.

The FIDE Women Grand Prix is a new series of elite tournaments which will be organized by FIDE and Global Chess. There will be 6 legs over two years in various countries around the world with three tournaments every year.

The winner of each tournament will win 6,500 euros out of a prize fund of 40,000 euros and the overall winner of the series will win a further 15,000 euros at the end of the series, according to the tournament’s website.

The event will be one of the strongest women tournaments of all times, with the highest ranked women players participating: Humpy Koneru (India, 2607), Nana Dzagnidze (Georgia, 2550), Antoaneta Stepanova (Bulgaria, 2546), Pia Cramling (Sweden, 2516), Maya Chiburdanidze (Georgia, 2502), Zhu Chen (Qatar, 2495), Marie Sebag (France, 2489), Xu Yuhua (China, 2484), Batkhuyag Munguntuul (Mongolia, 2410) and Martha Fierro (Ecuador, 2353).
