Chairman of the International Center for Geopolitical Studies, Georgian political analyst Tengiz Pkhaladze said that conflicts escalation in South Caucasus is rather possible.

“The escalation of conflicts in the region may gain momentum with respect to the upcoming elections in Russia. The Kremlin regime may need an external matter to distract attention from the problems, which devastate Russia from inside. Besides, the status-quo maintenance in zones of conflicts is advantageous for Moscow. With this, it wants to achieve an “exclusive control” over the situation in South Caucasus,” said Pkhaladze.

According to him, much depends on the region’s countries and their sober assessment of the situation. “Our states need a peaceful development, while our future depends on decisions we make today. We have no right to mistakes,” concluded Pkhaladze.
