ANC: Armenia preparing for March 1 rallyFebruary 25, 2011 - 14:42 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Opposition, public and the authorities are preparing for the March 1 rally, coordinator of the Armenian National Congress said. “The current situation is unprecedented, as the discontent with the ruling regime is growing among various strata of population,” Levon Zurabyan told reporters on Feb 25. He said the opposition will not allow repetition of March 1, 2008 tragedy and “any act of violence will be rebuffed.” “In March–April, the opposition will start a season of rallies and it will be the last chance for the authorities to resolve the problem peacefully and declare extraordinary elections,” Zurabyan said. According to him, dictatorship is a conflict between the ruling forces and people that can burst out at any moment. “And the opposition on March 1 is going to give start to a peaceful resolution of this conflict. The authorities are scared of the upcoming rally and take certain measures, including summoning opposition supporters to police stations and calling on them to refrain from any actions.” Zurabyan also said that the next parliamentary and presidential elections will be conducted at a different level, as over the past three years a democratic society developed and strengthened in the republic. “The incumbent regime has exhausted itself,” he concluded.
