Expert: overuse of social networks makes teenagers social invalids

Psychologist Karine Nalchajyan said that excessive use of social networks makes teenagers social invalids.

Communication with people via social networks allows them not only to completely reveal their personality, but also to present themselves in a different light, Nalchacjyan told a press conference in Yerevan.

According to her, Internet allows gaining certain victories, freely expressing opinion and achieving fictitious self-affirmation in a sense.

“This helps teenagers to avoid live problems,” she said.

At the same time, the expert noted that overuse of computers becomes a reason for serious conflicts between parents and children.

“Being aware of computer’s harmfulness, parents try to limit their children’s access to it,” Nalchajyan said, adding that, however, use of computer has also positive sides.

Referring to the negative impact of social networks, neurologist Shushan Asatryan said for her part that currently children obtain such information via them, which is not appropriate for their age.

According to her, this is the reason behind the fact that mentality of 20-year-old person is observed among children aged 12-15.
