UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed Movses Abelyan as a department head at the UN Security Council.

Abelyan has a 20-year long experience in various diplomatic institutions. Since 2003, he has served as secretary of the fifth administrative and budgetary committee of the UN General Assembly. In 1998-2003, he was Armenia’s permanent representative to the UN.
