Bulgarian nationalists demand removal of news broadcast in Turkish

Bulgaria's far-right, nationalist Ataka party demanded that Bulgaria Prime Minister Boyko Borisov removes the 10 minute daily news broadcast in Turkish on the state funded BNT 1.

The Prime Minister was given 2 weeks to fulfill the demand.

BNT Director General stated that news broadcast in Turkish is consistent with the law on national minorities. They can be removed only in case the legislation is altered, he noted.

As Stanislav Stanilov, Ataka parliamentary group leader stressed, BNT, as a national channel, has to broadcast only in Bulgarian, while news in Turkish can be aired on local channels.
