MEETING OF ALIYEV AND KOCHARIAN IN FLORIDA WILL DIFFER FROM PREVIOUS ONES
YEREVAN, April 2. /Mediamax/. The meeting in the Key West will be very different from what's been happening when two presidents met alone or two presidents simply met together with French President Chirac.
Mediamax was informed from diplomatic sources that this was announced by a U.S. Senior State Department Official at a special briefing in Washington. He said the Minsk group co-chairs will have continuous meetings in Florida directly with the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, both together and separately.
The State Department Official did not agree with the opinion that the main expectations were from the possible meeting of the two Presidents in Moscow. He stressed that if the format of the Florida negotiations was successful, then that might be something that would be repeated elsewhere. He noted that there had been a continuous, steady movement forward and some progress in this dialogue between these Presidents. "At the simplest level, in fact, having had a relationship established between the two leaders of countries that are formally at war is very valuable," he stressed.
"This is a long-term process but we see a unique window of opportunity here,"-the American diplomat said.
It was noted at the briefing that the Secretary General of the OSCE Yan Kubish and Ambassador Constantine Ene, the representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-office will also be attending the talks in Key West. --0--
