Alternative energy sources must be developed in Armenia, expert says

Armenia, located in seismic zone, should learn a lesson from the situation Japan came to face after the earthquake.

Alternative energy sources must be developed in Armenia, Doctor of Economics, professor, founder of Alternative Center for Education, Policy Research and Economic Analysis Tatul Manaseryan told a news conference in Yerevan.

As he noted, virtually the half of Armenia’s energy balance is formed at the expense of nuclear fuel. Despite safety measures observed at Armenian NPP, world experience in provision of technical security must be considered.

As the expert said, Japan disaster alerted countries worldwide to the danger. Specifically, the EU states are stressing the need to review energy plans to increase safety and shift to alternative resources.
