Aliyev finds comfort in hope that Karabakh will never gain independence

Azerbaijan will not participate in negotiations for the sake of imitation, for the sake of negotiations. This is our unequivocal opinion, and the status quo must be changed. All are well aware what changing the status quo means, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the meeting of the Cabinet.

“Azerbaijan’s position is supported by the OSCE co-chairs. Unacceptability of the status quo was repeatedly mentioned by senior officials of the co-chairing states. If the status quo will be changed, and it must be changed, this has to happen soon”, the President said.

He noted that Azerbaijan’s position in the negotiation process is unambiguous. “This position is based not only on our wishes, but also on international law, which is still the main criterion in the world.”

“At present, we’re witnessing gross violations of international law. Therefore, the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be restored without any conditions laid down,” he said.

The President informed that the proposals, which are currently on negotiating table, will ensure the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

"Once again I repeat: granting independence to Nagorno Karabakh is impossible. It is not and will never be a topic for discussion,” APA quoted Aliyev as saying.
