The recently published list of candidates for the 2012 parliamentary elections in Turkey proved the stir that Turkish media raised, suggesting some of the candidates might be Armenian, was a mere PR action, a senior staff scientist at the Oriental Studies Institute said.

According to Anush Hovhannisyan, no Armenian was included in any Turkish party’s candidates lists, which means Turks have once again used Armenian community to solve their issues. “The 60000 members of Armenian community mean little to Turkey with a population of 70 million,” she remarked.

As the expert noted, throughout the history of the country, only 23 non-Muslim MPs (8 Jewish, 8 Greeks and 6 Armenians) were presented at Turkish parliament.
