ARMENIA IS ONE OF THE WORSE IN CIS FOR SALARY AND UNEMPLOYMENT LEVEL
YEREVAN, February 14. /Mediamax/. Armenia is one of the worse among other CIS states in the level of average salary, re-counted according to official foreign currency rate, fixed by national banks, in US dollars. The data of the CIS Interstate Statistics committee testifies this.
According to statistics, the average salary of an employee in Armenia in 2000 made US$39. The highest average salary was in Kazakhstan - 94 dollars, while the minimal index of average salary was in Tajikistan - 8.7 dollars.
Statisticians mark relatively high indices of average salary in 2000 in Russia ($81) and Belarus ($74). In Azerbaijan the average salary made 46 dollars, in the Ukraine - $42, in Moldavia - $33, in Kirghizia - $25.
The highest level of registered unemployment, as before, remains in Armenia, where in end-December, 2000 it made 10.9% of the economically active population. According to the data of the CIS Interstate Statistics committee, in the end of 2000 the number of unemployed in the republic amounted to 153.9 thousand.
A high unemployment rate is still observed in Ukraine, where it makes 4.2% of the able-bodied population of the country. In Kazakhstan the level of registered unemployment has made 3.7%, in Kirghizia - 3.1%, in Tajikistan - 3.0%, in Belarus - 2.1%, in Moldavia - 1.8%, in Russia - 1.4%, in Azerbaijan - 1.2%, in Uzbekistan - 0.5%. -0-
