ANCA: Turkey once again used threats to prevent Genocide bill adoption in France

The French Senate on May 4 did not consider the resolution that if passed would criminalize the denial of the Armenian Genocide in France. With a vote 196 to 74, the senate blocked a formal debate on the issue.

“Today in France, Turkey once again used threats and blackmail to attempt to block its growing isolation as a state-sponsor of Armenian Genocide denial, and to delay the day when it will, as it must, have to materially and morally reckon with a truthful and just resolution of this crime against humanity," Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the ANCA, told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

The bill envisaged a fine at amount of 45.000 euros or up to 5 years in prison.
