NAGORNO KARABAKH SEEKS INVESTORS TO REALIZE 91 MILLION IRRIGATION PROJECT
08.02.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Armenian scientific-research institute "Armhydroproject" suggested the NKR Ministry of Agriculture a project of constructing in Nagorno-Karabakh an irrigation system, valued 91 million dollars. 55 million dollars of the total are envisaged for constructing the reservoirs, and 36 million dollars - for creating the irrigation network, as NKR Minister for agriculture Armo Tsatourian told Mediamax.
Realization of the project will increase the productivity of cereals, vegetables and fruit by several times, which will allow not only to provide the Nagorno-Karabakh population fully with ecologically clear agricultural products, but to export them partially as well.
As regards the financing of the project, which amounts to almost four annual budgets of NKR, Tsatourian noted that in case the project is realized, the republic will be able to get agricultural gross output, valued 38.8 million dollars annually, of which 19.8 million will be the net income.
According to the NKR Minister of Agriculture Armo Tsatourian, thanks to the sharp increase of the agricultural production, all the expenses for the construction of the irrigation system will be compensated in several years. Thus, the Minister expressed hope that investors both from the CIS countries and abroad would become interested in the project. --0--
