Iranian poet Shams Langroudi’s poems translated into ArmenianMay 24, 2011 - 09:30 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - An Armenian version of a selection of poems by the Iranian poet Shams Langroudi has been published in Yerevan. Translated by Edward Haqverdian, the book was released by Iran’s Embassy in Yerevan, Tehran Times reported. Entitled “Street’s Sailor”, the book is a collection selected from five poetry collections by Langerudi: “53 Love Songs”, “Hell’s Gardener”, “My Trout’s Lip-Readings”, “I die to be penalized as I lived” and a collection with the same name “Street’s Sailor”. During his 30-year career, Haqverdian has translated books by several contemporary Persian luminaries including Qeisar Aminpur, Sohrab Sepehri, Sadeq Chubak, Forugh Farrokhzad, and Sadeq Hedayat into Armenian. Son of Ayatollah Jafar Shams Langroudi, Mohammad was born and raised in a religious family in Langerud, northern Iran. He debuted with a poetry collection in 1977 and rose to fame in 1980s. He has composed many poems published in “Thirst Behavior”, “Ash and Lady”, “Notes for Wooden Nightingale”, “Gardner of Hell” and several other books. Shams Langroudi is mostly famous for his poetry. However, he is also the author of a novel “Parade on Hollow Earth”. He has also tried his hand at cinema, playing a professor in “Flamingo No. 13”, directed by Hamidreza Aliqolian.
