EX MAYOR OF YEREVAN: MY RESIGNATION HAS NO HIDDEN POLITICAL MOTIVES
16.01.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "The question of my resignation had matured long ago", said today at a press conference in Yerevan ex mayor of Yerevan Albert Bazeyan.
Bazeyan said his resignation from the mayor's post had no hidden political motives, "it was motivated by the President Kocharian's discontentment with my work." According to Bazeyan, the question of his resignation was first raised in August 2000, when the Prime Minister of Armenia Andranik Margarian suggested him taking the post of the Minister for coordination of territorial management and urban development.
Bazeyan said Armenian President expressed his discontentment with the municipal activity, particularly with too frequent rallies and demonstrations. "Armenia is free and democratic state, where every person and organization has the constitutional right for freedom of speech", ex mayor said.
Answering the question on his further plans, Bazeyan said he is not going to work in the executive branch. -0-
