BarCamp Yerevan 2011 to kick off on June 4

BarCamp Yerevan 2011 informal conference will kick off on June 4. Organizer of the non-conference Arpine Grigoryan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter that preparatory works are almost completed.

“Basically, our special guests have already arrived in Yerevan. Organizers, volunteers, guests, as well as those, who prepared presentations, can visit Friends bar to socialize and get prepared for the event,” said Grigoryan.

ArmenTel company, Internews NGO through the financial support of USAID, Deem Communications and Opera Software companies, as well as PanARMENIAN Media assist organization of BarCamp Yerevan 2011.

“BarCamp movement has become popular among IT and media specialists. It is not strange, since its informal format equalizes heads of corporations and ordinary users, as well as bloggers,” said Spokeswoman of ArmenTel CJSC Anush Begloyan.

“We are interested in BarCamp, since it provides with alternative information resources and gives an opportunity to discuss their development in an informal atmosphere,” said Executive Director of Internews Nune Sargsyan.

BarCampYerevan 2011 will be held in the American University of Armenia on June 4-5. Official tag of BarCampYerevan 2011 is #barcampevn11.

BarCamp is an international network of user-generated conferences. They are open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants. The first BarCamps focused on early-stage web applications, and were related to open source technologies, social protocols and open data formats. The first BarCamp was held in Palo Alto, California, in 2005. Since then, BarCamps have been held in over 350 cities around the world.

The event has been organized in Armenia since 2009. BarCamp was held in the Republic of Artsakh for the first time in 2010.
