Turkey’s AKP will win parliamentary majority, expert says

AKP Justice and Development Party will definitely win Turkey’s parliamentary elections in June, according to Turkish studies expert.

As Varuzhan Geghamyan told a news conference in Yerevan, AKP has every chance to make the majority in the parliament. “Scandals around the party and attacks on Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan cannot but affect his authority,” the expert added.

Commenting on the demolition of Kars-based monument to humanity symbolizing Armenian-Turkish friendship, as well as the Turkish society’s resentment concerning the fact, the expert characterized the response as a PR action rather than a sincere emotion.

Cheese and honey monument will be erected instead of the Monument to Humanity, the symbol of Turkish-Armenian friendship in Kars province of Turkey. Visiting Kars on January 8, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan reportedly described the monument as a “monstrosity” that overshadows a nearby Islamic shrine.
