Hayk Melikyan to premiere his composition at Sweden-hosted festivalJune 11, 2011 - 17:05 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On June 16, a famous pianist Hayk Melikyan will present a world premiere of a self-composed triptych within the framework of Sweden-hosted O/MODƏRNT festival. As the pianist noted in a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, the composition was written in commemoration of Johann Sebastian Bach, bearing strong resemblance on the great composer’s style. The festival O/MODƏRNT, due June 15-18, celebrates “looking back” to the past by exploring the relationships between the work of old composers and the artistic and intellectual creations of modern culture, be it in music, art, dance, theatre, film, poetry, literature, academia. Each year a single composer is chosen as a guiding spirit of the festival, with Johann Sebastian Bach chosen as an inspiration for 2011 event. Hayk Melikyan was born on November 29, 1980 in Yerevan. Laureate of many international piano competitions, he is widely known as one of the best performers of 20th century and contemporary music. Hayk Melikyan is the first performer of many composers' works of this period in Armenia, such as I. Xenakis, P. Dusapin, W. Rihm, S. Sciarrino, G. Kurtag, L. Andriessen, L. Nono, E.
