UNESCO headquarters in Paris to host khachkar exhibitJune 15, 2011 - 17:34 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On June 15-24, UNESCO headquarters in Paris will host an exhibition on the art of khachkar. The exhibit will be held in the framework of UNESCO-organized scientific conferences, with representatives of the countries worldwide, including Armenia, attending. The exhibit will feature photos portraying 60 khachkars of different epochs. A delegation led by Armenian Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan includes Parajanov Museum director Zaven Sargsyan, the head of YSU Art History Department Levon Chugaszyan. Levon Donabedian, a Paris-based Art History Doctor will also attend the event. During the exhibit, Armenian master of khachkar Robert Minasyan will be creating a cross-stone for the visitors to see. On November 17, 2010, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has declared the Armenian khachkar (cross-stone) an intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent safeguarding.
