EU to closely watch situation with media freedom in Armenia

Head of Financial and Contracts Section of Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, Mr. Jean-Christophe Gayrand said that the EU will closely watch the situation with media freedom in the country.

“The European Union cooperates with the office of Armenia’s Ombudsman and is ready to render expert assistance and hold consultations to ensure freedom media and revision of the operating law On Media,” he told journalists on June 17.

“Media freedom and pluralism are among fundamental values of the European Union as well as of the Eastern Partnership initiative. We are happy that the Armenian government has revise the bill on introduction of amendments to the law On Media to improve the current state of affairs,” Mr. Gayrand said.
