Armenian MP: progress in talks possible if Azerbaijan accepts Karabakh status

There will be progress in talks for Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement in case if Azerbaijan accepts the status of Karabakh, representative of ARF Dashnaktsutyun Supreme Body Armen Rustamyan said.

“Armenia should not agree on any ambiguous formulations in this issue,” Rustamyan said when commenting on the impending meeting in Kazan.

“If we do not get well-defined mechanisms of people’s right for self-determination and specification of status, all other principles are not admissible,” he said.

Rustamyan also commented on the rumors on possible signing of a document in Kazan, legitimating non-use of force by the parties. It will be the first document offered by mediators, which must be concordant with the agreement on ceasefire.

The Member of Parliament also emphasized necessity of Karabakh’s involvement in negotiations process.

“We have numerously stated that Artsakh should be engaged in talks,” Rustamyan said, adding that Armenia must be firm in this issue to achieve results, as in case with PACE ad hoc committee on Nagorno Karabakh.
