MONTHLY SALARY OF ARMENIAN ACADEMICIANS $50
05.12.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The National Assembly of Armenia passed the "Scientific and scientific-technical activity" bill today.
Fadey Sarkisian, the president of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NAS), who presented the bill, stated that he thought the fact that the leading scientists of the country receive miserable salaries was inadmissible. According to him, NAS academicians earn $50 a month, while the corresponding members of NAS - $25. The president of the National Academy of Sciences voiced his hope that in addition the passed bill will have a positive influence on the financial condition of the scientists as well.
The National Assembly of Armenia also adopted the bills on professional unions and on state support to small and bigger businesses. -0-
