NIYAZOV AND KOCHARIAN MAY AGREE UPON SUPPLY OF TURKMEN GAS INTO ARMENIA THROUGH IRAN
28.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. During the official visit of the President of Armenia to Turkmenistan, which will be held tomorrow, November 29, Robert Kocharian and Saparmurad Niyazov plan to discuss the question concerning the supply of Turkmen gas into Armenia through Iran. Turkmenistan.Ru online-paper, famous for its closeness with the official Turkmen leadership, reported today quoting some "reliable" sources in Ashkhabad.
The possibility of gas export from Turkmenistan to Armenia through Iran, which separates them, was considered in early 90's, when an economic interaction within the framework of Ashkhabad-Teheran-Yerevan "triangle" was being established. Turkmenistan could supply fuel to Iran using the present Korpeje-Kurt-Kui gas-pipeline, and Iran, in its turn, would convey gas to Armenia through Iran-Armenia gas-pipeline, the construction of which is to begin in 2001. -0-
