THE EMBASSY OF UKRAINE NAMES "TACTLESS" THE ACTIVITIES OF SEVERAL ARMENIAN MASS MEDIA
22.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The Embassy of Ukraine in Armenia thinks it appropriate to point out the tactlessness of activities of several Armenian mass media, says the Embassy statement received today by Mediamax.
The statement notes that "on November 18, 2000, "Snark" agency spread information, supposedly received from "competent sources", about the detention in Rostov of echelon with military equipment, which, as the agency asserted, headed from Ukraine to Azerbaijan to be used "…either in the direction of Karabakh or in Chechnya".
The Ukrainian Embassy in Armenia notes that the railroad echelon (45 cross-country "Pinsgauer" vehicles and 5 of medical assistance of Swiss production, heading from Hungary to Georgia for the Ministry of Justice of the country) proceeded on the Ukrainian territory and was detained at the Russian customs post on the border with Ukraine, as according to the information of the South customs department of RF, there was no corresponding permission for a transit of equipment through the territory of Russia.
The statement of the Embassy expresses regret that "several Armenian mass media used this incident to distort the policy of Ukraine in the Caucasus". -0-
