THE RELIGIOUS LEADER OF AZERBAIJAN LEAVES TOMORROW FOR MOSCOW TO HOLD A MEETING WITH THE HEAD OF THE ARMENIAN CHURCH

The religious leader of Azerbaijan Sheikh-ul-Islam Khadji Allahshukyur Pashazade leaves tomorrow, November 22, for Moscow where through the mediation of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexiy II he will have a meeting with the Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin II.
The highlight of the negotiations will be the problems of peace settlement of the Karabakh issue, the discussion of the possibility to increase the activity of clergymen of both the republics to provide stable peace in the region. The meeting of the religious leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan through the mediation of Alexiy II will take place on November 23.
This will be the fourth meeting of the religious heads of Azerbaijan and Armenia. Allahshukyur Pashazade met with Catholicos Vazgen I in 1988 and 1993 in Rostov-on-Don and Montre (Switzerland). In 1995 his meeting with Catholicos Garegin I in Moscow took place.
The initiator of the new meeting was the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Garegin II addressed a message to Sheikh-ul-Islam this summer, where he spoke for the continuation of the dialogue of the religious figures of the two nations to search ways for achieving peace in the region. -0-
