POLITICAL PROBLEMS BAR IMPLEMENTATION OF CARGO TRANSPORTATION BY ARMENIA
21.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The Armenian railway possesses a huge potential for implementation of transit cargo transfers, however, unsettled political tasks make an obstacle on this way, the Executive Director of "Railway transfers of Armenia" State JSC Artak Davtian said to journalists.
According to him the fact that Abkhazia-Georgia part of railway is still idle makes impossible to decrease the tariffs for cargo transit and deprives Armenia of possible land communication with Russia. "It is natural that we are not able to carry out cargo transportation both via Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan, while the self cost of transportation by this transport lines is rather low," Davtian stressed.
He said that the volume of cargo transits carried out today by the Armenian railway stands at 1.5-2 mln tons. --0--
