Egypt hopes for OSCE MG efforts success in Karabakh settlement

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Arab Republic of Egypt is interested in the establishment of stability in South Caucasus as a part of security of the whole region, and reaffirms its position, stressing the importance of peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with principles of international law and in the context of international legality, the country’s embassy in Azerbaijan reported.

Egypt is pursuing closely the ongoing efforts to solve the Karabakh conflict, specifically the OSCE Minsk Group efforts in this direction. Egypt is looking forward for the success of these efforts to solve the conflict and to achieve peace in accordance with the relevant resolutions of UN Security Council, the statement reads, according to Today.az.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
